I will also ramble:

1. I actually think this drink would be delicious with plain-flavored soy creamer. We did not test that theory, but I'm convinced creamer would have a very Russian feel/thickness.

2. KristinAthena and I spent many an evening in college drinking our favorite drink, the White Russian. Therefore, when she proposed that we try this new twist on it, I had to let her "create".

3. It was her suggestion to blog it as a team effort. She, the constructor. Me, the author/poster.

Thanks Everyone for your comments. Now go drink up! You won't be sorry.

I will add some rambling. We tried both vanilla soy milk and vanilla almond milk. The soy wasn't beautiful, but the almond milk just disappeared. I couldn't taste it at all, and it provided none of the "body" I like in my white Russians.

The idea to use Heering's cherry came from the Intoxicologist, who Madame Scrump linked above. Her blog is fantastic, fun and full of information and completely without the snobbery that some cocktail enthusiasts might have.

I like tasting the cherry a little more, so that's why I upped its amount over that of Kahlua. The Intoxicologist also uses flavored vodka: her recipe calls for Van Gogh Double Espresso Vodka, which I bet is wonderful!

I don't suppose it's often that one needs to veganize a cocktail recipe, but I've loved the Russians since college, which is also when I met Madame Scrump. When she came over to visit, she wanted to taste the poison, too. What more reason to experiment and, um, giggle a whole lot?
